CILA - The Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters

2010 CILA Technical Conference

Introduction

A RECORD breaking number of delegates braved heavy rain clouds and traffic jams to attend the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjuster’s fourth annual technical conference in Coventry.

The gathering rounded up an exciting year for the CILA, which has included a tie up with Bournemouth University - ensuring CILA qualifications are academically recognised - and the launch a new book Property Insurance Law & Claims.

Opening the conference, outgoing President Graham Burgess, reflected on a year of change at the Institute.

“Our focus over the last year has been ‘Development Through Knowledge’ - it is the specialist knowledge of the members of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters that enables the Institute to punch above its weight.”

Mr Burgess closed the final address of his Presidency by paying tribute to the hard work of the CILA’s members, who continue to drive the Institute forward.

“We needed to improve our examination and educational offering and use this as a springboard to grow our membership in the UK and abroad. Malcolm Hyde (CILA Executive Director) has been pivotal in improving the suite of examinations we offer and Graham Cave (CILA Development Director) has led our development via the Specialist Interest Groups and our sponsors whilst we have started to expand overseas.”

Once the formalities were over, delegates launched into a two day programme of individual workshops, split across the CILA’s Specialist Interest Groups. The event would feature talks by some of the insurance industry’s leading experts who would address the challenges Loss Adjusters' face in the 21st century.
