Introduction to the Subsidence SIG from the Chairman:
Subsidence has been and will remain a major area of work for adjusting practices despite the fact the last three years has seen a very low number of notifications within the industry.
Many companies have devised innovative ways of responding to the needs of their Principals and these developments continue apace.
However the focus to 2010 is to work on an updated text book on the handling of subsidence claims in conjunction with the RICS and Subsidence Forum .
In addition we are working closely with the LTOA (Local Authority Tree Officers Association) in reviewing the joint mitigation protocol which sets out timescales and levels of evidence to deal with mitigation on Local Authority street trees which are apparently implicated in subsidence damage.
Other areas that need clarification are health and safety and building regulation requirements particularly part L. Both of these areas are being considered and it is anticipated that guidance notes will be issued shortly.
I encourage all those working in the subsidence arena to join the SIG and support the various initiatives. I would also welcome any other topics and ideas which you think we need to consider.
John Parvin
