Introduction to the Smaller Independent Practices SIG from the Chairman:

If you are employed by a Loss Adjusting practice that is not multi-national, owned by a financial institution or have offices throughout the country then you are eligible to join our Specialist Interest Group.

Our purpose is to give a forum for adjusters who do not have the support systems that larger organisations provide. Thus we aim to help adjusters in smaller practices cope with problems of whatever nature - whether they are educational, career related or technical. Most importantly we offer a voice to smaller practices within CILA who often have a different agenda from the larger players. We are not anti big companies, but do look at the profession and its future from a different perspective.

I suspect that with the diversification of the adjusting profession over the past five years there are now more qualified loss adjusters working in smaller practices than in major companies. That ought to give us a powerful voice in CILA – and I hope that everyone who is eligible to join our SIG and cares about the profession supports us.

In smaller practices there is an even greater likelihood that the multi-skilled loss adjuster will, of necessity, have to develop even more knowledge in other disciplines such as financial management, human resources, purchasing, IT and marketing. I firmly believe that this website can assist us - through a combination of sharing, self-help together with some of that overused term ‘networking’ – in developing our smaller practices and the people who work in them. I hope that members will use the site, attend our meetings and most importantly of all, contribute. I welcome you to our pages.
