Introduction to the Property SIG from Luke Exford, Chairman:

Welcome to the website of the Property Specialist Interest Group which came into being mid 2006.

The objectives of the Property SIG runs to a rapidly growing list, however the key objectives include:-

  • Providing a centre of excellence in the field of Chartered Loss Adjusting and Claims Handling to enhance the reputation of the Institute in the areas of property and weather related claims
  • Representing the interests of those members who specialise in this area of claims
  • Promoting the Institute and its members within the Insurance Industry in the handling of claims.

The inaugural meeting of the committee was held on 11th August 2006 with a more recent meeting on 30th January.

The topics which have been discussed fall into three broad categories:-

  • Housekeeping – the Constitution and objectives of the steering committee of the SIG, frequency of meetings, methods of election etc
  • Current topics – Asbestos regulations, FPA loss report forms, the “Blue Book”, use of Website and material to be published, liaison with trade bodies, attendance at seminars etc
  • Looking forward – a CPD event based around a major loss scenario
