Introduction to the Claims Consultancy SIG from the Chairman:

This work is undertaken by a small but growing band of independent adjusters, who act on behalf of the Insured in corporate, commercial and domestic claim negotiations and settlements. The SIG has a high ratio of very experienced and fully qualified adjusters, who assist the claims process and form a significant part of the “Treating the Customer Fairly” doctrine. For the uninitiated, we provide policyholders with a representative who has Certified Chartered Status and is bound to comply with the CILA Charter and Guide to Professional Conduct, as well as FSA authorisation and regulation. We bring added value to the claims process, as well as an alternate career choice within the adjusting field.

It was a great privilege to be asked to chair the Claims Consultancy SIG through its formation until formal elections are held. There has been a good response from members and various topical issues including the SIG Constitution, Guide to Professional Conduct, Impartiality of adjusters and the Compensation Act 2006 have already been discussed with many more to follow. The Group is an active voice within the Institute and will be involved in any liaisons between CILA and the FSA concerning regulation. We will endeavour to be formally recognised by the FSA as a centre of excellence, and assist in the marketing of CILA, the Group and its membership. It is particularly important to market our professionalism, to gain recognition and to educate others, particularly those within the industry, of the differences and advantages involved in employing a Chartered Loss Adjuster to handle policyholder claims.

Visitors to this site will be kept appraised of the latest issues, information and articles about the SIG and its members with news, reports, meetings and minutes being regularly posted. Appropriate technical bulletins, reviews of relevant legal cases and articles written by members are also available, together with details of future meetings and events. The Group will become the recognised forum, and provide network opportunities, for those engaged in claims consultancy work, policyholders, brokers, risk managers and others interested in what we do. Education events, in conjunction with other SIGs and other organisations will be held providing opportunities to learn, engage with others and earn CPD points!

My thanks for their support and assistance go to the members of the initial steering committee, who are
