Introduction to the Anti-Fraud SIG from the Chairman:

This group had already formed itself before the concept of SIGs was introduced. With the outset of regulation, fraud, or rather prevention of fraud, has taken on a higher profile.

Various industry groups, not least the ABI Anti-Fraud Committee, had been formed and the founder members of the Anti-Fraud SIG saw the need to be able to talk as a single body to these other groups on non-competitive issues. The fight against financial crime often requires a collaborative approach and this is at the core of the Anti-Fraud SIG.

Their core activities to date include:

  • Liaison with the ABI Anti-Fraud Committee and other bodies on matters such as benchmarking fraud performance, the Insurance Fraud Bureau and working with the police.
  • Development of a set of Training and Competency requirements for those operating as specialists in this field. The Training and Competency requirements will set a standard that our clients can then rely on when appointing investigators from within our profession.
  • Responding to the consultation process of the SIA following the introduction of the Security Industries Act. It has been of paramount importance to ensure our role as Loss Adjusters has been fully understood by the regulator.
  • Raising the profile of the CILA in relation to fraud through press articles, presentations at conferences and other means.

As with all the other SIGs it is intended that technical publications will form a major part of the material on this area of the CILA website. Having established Training & Competency standards there is a clear need for the Anti-Fraud SIG to indicate how these can be met, and also to demonstrate how our members stay in the forefront of the drive to ensure honest customers are treated fairly by rooting out fraudulent claims.
