Introduction to the International SIG from the Chairman:

The International SIG has devolved out of a combination of the old International Committee and the International SIG. It now seeks to cover the combined areas of CILA strategy in the global insurance arena and the requirements of the many CILA members who work globally, either based overseas, of on a Home Foreign basis. We have also restructured the SIG committee as not only had the combined committee become large and unwieldy but also it included many members based around the world and as such it proved impossible to organise meetings to suit everyone’s time zones.

We now have a small central Management committee based in the UK. Within this there are a number of sub committees and working groups who address specific aspects of the International SIG requirements. The day to day work on areas of member support and SIG projects are undertaken by these. Each is chaired by a member of the Management committee. In this way we have found that far more can be achieved to serve the members needs, and far less time is spent on general discussion in a large meeting.

The CILA web site is an important and integral part of how we seek to communicate with overseas members and provide information. Technical articles and information can be provided in this way, but ones that are focussed on the specific topics and issues faced by members overseas as opposed to those working only in the UK. I would also encourage all overseas members to make use of the forum section of the web site to let us know what your needs are and how you think we can improve our service to you, as well as posting issues of local interest to the market you work in.
