Introduction to the Construction, Energy and Engineering SIG from the Chairman:
My name is Adam Humphrey. At a recent SIG committee meeting I was pleased to accept an invitation to be the next SIG Chairman. This follows Simon Earnshaw’s completion of a successful two year term. My aim is to continue the work undertaken during Simon's term and to that end I am grateful that Simon has agreed to continue to be part of the SIG committee.
This SIG encompasses a diverse range of technical claims expertise, and the committee's aim is to continue to provide a forum for debate and development across these areas. Over the past year we have, among other things, arranged several lectures – these are free to members; the website has continued to develop with the publication of technical and legal updates and as an area for technical discussion. We welcome our members' continued contributions.
The CEE SIG is active, with the latest successful event taking place on 15 June in London. This was a question time event (Insurance Claims in the Power Industry) involving leading claims professionals and other experts from the power and energy sector, ably compered by committee member Rick Hartley. The event was well attended by loss adjusters and claims professionals from insurers, brokers, lawyers and other expert service providers. I hope that those of you who did go found it informative; the feedback received has been excellent.
We are now planning events for the next 12 months, and would welcome any suggestions or offers of assistance from our members.
Finally, the SIG committee has experienced some recent change: a few members have retired (on behalf of the committee I would like to thank Robin Mitchell and Gerard Eliasar for their contribution), and we welcome back Julian Preedy. The result of these changes is that we welcome enquiries from prospective new committee members. The commitment is not onerous with meetings taking place approximately four times a year. If you are interested in getting involved please feel free to drop me a line (ahumphrey@at-adj.com).
I look forward to seeing many of you at our future events.
Adam Humphrey
