Introduction to the Claimant SIG from the Chairman:

I was elected as Council Representative and Chairman of the CILA Claimant Specialist Interest Group at the 2010 CILA AGM and I would like to introduce myself. I am a dual qualified Chartered Loss Adjuster and Chartered Accountant who trained with GAB Robins, worked for Deloitte for three years doing claims preparation work and then started my own business, Parkinson Consulting Limited, eight years ago. I work for policyholders and act as a consultant to other firms of adjusters – so I regularly see both sides.

I am convinced that the role of the Chartered Loss Adjuster working for the policyholder has grown in importance and continues to do so. I feel passionately that our institute must properly represent those doing this work and offer guidance through the minefield of regulatory and commercial challenges we face.

The committee of our SIG has recently been augmented with the addition of Candy Holland (Echelon) and Peter Wallis (Marsh) who both bring years of experience of claimant work within large broker firms.

The purpose of the Claimant SIG is twofold:

1. To represent and support CILA members who work for policyholders providing guidance and thought leadership in respect of
a) regulation and other rule based issues
b) claims settlement procedures.

2. Develop the CILA’s engagement with brokers (via BIBA) and other industry bodies to promote the representation of policyholders by CILA members.

We have had significant input into CILA’s response to the consultancy document issued by HM Treasury seeking views on the ‘new approach to regulation’ and will be issuing a note on the regulation of dual qualified adjusters which is an area that continues to cause confusion and concern.

We aim to keep visitors to this site up to date with developments and will post links to documents that directly affect those of us carrying out claims presentation work.

If you have any questions about the Claimant SIG or would like to get more involved then please email me via info@cila.co.uk.

I look forward to hearing from you.
