Interim Pitt Review on UK Flooding
In August 2007, Sir Michael Pitt, Chairman of the South West Strategic Health Authority, was asked by Ministers to conduct an independent review of the flooding emergency that took place in June and July 2007.
Sir Michael's interim report on the causes and consequences of the floods has now been published. The 3 chapters from the report that relate to the insurance angle can be downloaded using the links below.
There are 4 key messages in the report:
- Inconsistent performance from insurers
- Adjusters don't seem to have got a particularly good press - some of the case studies are unhelpful
- Cash flow for policyholders was a problem - which of course links to the interim payment issue (residential and commercial)
- Communication and advice was invariably inconsistent - insurers / adjusters cannot give different advice to that of local authorities.
