Further Update from SIG Chairman, Mike Roberts

Since last providing you all with an up-date, I am delighted to be able to report two new developments.

Firstly, in the spirit of sharing valuable experiences gathered over an extensive career, an unsolicited article arrived from Gerard Eliasar, a dual qualified engineer/adjuster working for GAB Robins in the Netherlands. Gerard has provided an interesting case study which truly demonstrates the skill sets required in our sector, and the value of an enquiring mind coupled with a thorough investigation. The article, surrounding a boiler failure is extremely well written, with Gerard's style perfectly pitched to provide the essential information for everyone to draw the proper conclusions relative to policy liability and subrogation possibilities (albeit a project policy precluded the latter). Please take the time to review this piece, which in my view will be time well spent. If anyone is inspired to follow Gerard's lead, contributions will be welcomed.

I must however apologise to Gerard, as the article has been on the web site for a few weeks already. I have however held back the issue of this note to coincide with the second development. As you may recall I have been discussing the development of our group with bodies outside of CILA, particularly with lawyers to source the legal section of the web site. I am delighted to be able to confirm that Kennedys have not only agreed to compile a case law database for our sector, but the Partners have committed themselves to provide regular up-dates. Furthermore, they have agreed to sponsor our group, and will be taking an active interest in future events so that we can develop a truly worthwhile product for members and the market alike.

More will follow in this respect, and trade press announcements are being discussed to make the market fully aware of the product we are to deliver for both ourselves and our clients. In the meantime, it is necessary for me to acknowledge the assistance I have received from the Partners at Kennedys who have adopted an enthusiastic approach ; and in particular, Anthony Greenwood who made it all possible.
