Neil Horsfall
Neil Horsfall is the Area Property Manager based at Cunningham Lindsey’s Ipswich office.
After graduating from Sheffield University with a degree in Animal Biology he entered Loss Adjusting with McLarens as part of their pilot graduate recruitment programme. Since then he has gained 18 years of general commercial claims experience.
Following a period, between 2003 and 2005, spent with specialist media brokers in Colchester, Essex where he ran the claims team, Neil re-entered Loss Adjusting: Joining Cunningham Lindsey as manager at the Ipswich office where he runs a highly motivated and successful team of Adjusters and internal support staff who cover East Anglia, Cambridgeshire and beyond. Whilst the team deal with the full spectrum of commercial and domestic claims for their clients, they have developed and maintained a strong focus on supporting the farming community and this is at the core of the team’s ethos.
Like most major Loss Adjusting companies Cunningham Lindsey, is committed to supporting the CILA and its drive to evidence value and ability through professional qualifications. However to increase the number of CILA members putting themselves forward for Associate status, it was considered essential to improve exam interest and success. To this end in April 2009, a support programme was introduced at Cunningham Lindsey, aimed at taking selected adjusters through to ACILA status in two years.
Having achieved the ACII status some time ago, Neil recognised the need to demonstrate his commitment to CILA and moreover, set an example to less experienced members of staff to focus their attention on professional qualifications. To this end he recognised that the study programme, which had been developed by Cunningham Lindsey’s Learning and Development team, offered too good an opportunity to miss out on as it provided a framework to complement personal study.
Of course successful qualification requires individuals to be self motivated and to display the necessary level of commitment and application. However the tutorials and mock exams in particular, amongst the help offered, provided additional focus and structure.
At the October 2009 exams, 30 Cunningham Lindsey candidates sat a total of 59 exams. In total 36 passes were achieved, including 6 with distinction. Neil gained distinctions in both of the papers he sat. He thus joins 11 other candidates who each passed both C2 and C3 papers in being eligible for accreditation in 2010.
Whilst Neil recognises that many people helped with the programme he wishes to extend personal thanks to Colin Atkins, Paul Davidson, John O’Neill, Paul Reeve, Hayley Holt and the late Andy Baker who sadly passed away suddenly on 14th January 2010. All devoted a huge amount of personal time and showed unending patience with the theoretical and esoteric questions posed by students throughout our 2009 studies.
