CILA - The Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters

Immediate Past President Angus Tucker's Opening Address

Training and education are now at the forefront of the CILA agenda, said outgoing President Angus Tucker.

Welcoming delegates to the third CILA Technical Conference Angus said the Institute had undertaken a review and restructure of its examination syllabus over the past year.

He singled out Malcolm Hyde for his work in this area.

“We need to educate people as well as examine them,” he insisted. “Such education also needs to be relevant to all members, both students and those qualified many years ago.

“Continuing professional development is a vital part of today’s fast changing professional and technical development.”

In addition to this, Angus highlighted the progress made at the Business Interruption SIG seminar at the Willis Building in London earlier this year.

This addressed the problems caused by outdated BI policy wordings and sought to help find a market solution to the problem.

“The venue was packed and there were more non CILA members in attendance than members. This just illustrates to me the high esteem that our members are held in, recognised as the leading market experts in their specialist fields,” he added.

Angus rounded off an upbeat speech by thanking sponsors of the seven different SIGs at the conference.

“Their input is invaluable,” he said. “Not just monetary but also the intellectual input they provide as will be seen in many of the sessions over the next two days.”
