CILA - The Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters

New President's Opening Address

One of the most important issues facing CILA members is succession planning, said newly elected President Angus Tucker.

In his opening address to the SIG conference’s second day, Angus asked where the future generation of loss adjusters was to come from. “If we are to survive, never mind thrive, we have to find ways of bringing new blood into the profession and certainly that’s something I intend to concentrate on with council over the next year.”

However, Angus pointed out that all was not lost “owing to the superhuman efforts of the membership in response to the challenge of the 2007 floods.”

He spoke of his joint visits across flood-stricken parts of the UK alongside Association of British Insurers’ Director General Stephen Haddrill: “I have to say I was awaiting a barrage of complaints, but as it transpired, none of them were directed at loss adjusters. Indeed the adjusters were seen by the insureds as being the technical experts in the loop of many people they were dealing with as well as the natural recovery project managers, which I think shows the standing we are held in by the general public.”

Angus added that he thinks the SIGs are the way forward for CILA. “They represent the technical excellence that loss adjusters provide to the market and going forward I’m sure they will be seen as the cutting edge in claims, thought leadership and technical expertise. The number of people at conference – 50% up on 2007 - demonstrates the success of this event.”
