Using the Forums
To use the forums you will first need to login to the site. To do this, click the ‘Forums’ link near the top right hand corner of the screen, enter your username and password in the boxes in the right panel, and then click ‘Log In’. You will now see a list of the different forums that are available. There are 3 separate forums for each SIG, and one general forum. Clicking on any of these forums will take you a list of discussions that are currently taking place in that forum (each discussion is referred to as a ‘topic’). A good place to start might be the ‘Technical Discussions’ forum of a SIG in which you have an interest.
Once you have the list of topics on the screen, clicking on any one of them will allow you to read the discussion inside. Each discussion consists of a sequence of comments submitted by users of the forum. If you wish to submit your own comment, scroll down to the bottom of the screen where you will see a box labelled ‘Post New Comment’. Type your message in the white box marked ‘Comment’, and then click ‘Post comment’. Your message will now appear as the latest contribution to the discussion. As you will see, each message is labelled with the username of the user who submitted it, and the time and date of submission. If you would like to post anonymously, you may submit your message to the editor using the ‘Contact’ link (next to the ‘Forums’ link), and I will submit it for you. Your message will then appear as being ‘submitted by editor’.
If you would like to start a new topic instead of replying to an existing one, you can do this by clicking the ‘Post new forum topic’ bottom, which appears directly above the list of topics on each forum page. The process is then exactly the same as replying to an existing topic, except your message will appear as a new topic on the main forum page.
If you require any more advice on using the forums, or any other part of the CILA website, please do not hesitate to contact the web editor by using the ‘Contact’ link above.
